2015 Block Party with Eleanor Burns
I have been passionately collecting antique quilts for nearly 40 years and
while adding a newly purchased quilt to my cherished collection, I
noticed a pattern I hadn't thought about in years, Dresden Plate. I was
struck by how much I enjoyed this pattern and how pretty it looked in
vintage feedsack fabrics. I began to notice other antique quilts and felt
inspiration begin to take hold of me. There are countless charming patterns
that have been forgotten from days gone by, Goose in the Pond, English
Garden, Ocean Waves, Spider Web and more. The wheels started turning as I
realized that it would be fun to make a sampler quilt of antique patterns,
using a variety of techniques.
I invite you to join me as I "reinvent" these lovely patterns from a by-gone
era. Each month we will delve into the history of these patterns and use
modern techniques to recreate our own heirloom sampler. On our journey we'll
learn new techniques, make "new" blocks", delight in their history, and
finish with new skills and a sampler quilt worth bragging rights.
